Blair County Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees Sue Auker-Slep, John Fiore and President Cathy Keefe prepare to send donated items to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.

Members of the Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) recently collected food, useful items and monetary contributions from their members for the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society. The group contributes to a different organization at each month’s meeting, including various food banks, the Mountain Lion Backpack program, the Altoona Teen Center, the Rescue Mission, the Red Cross, the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home, as well as to other philanthropic groups.

One of the busiest chapters in the state, the Blair County Chapter is always looking for new ways to serve school retirees and the community.

Retired schoolchildren now members of the Homewood community in Martinsburg will be treated to a luncheon in their honor this month by the Blair County chapter.

Summer meetings in June, July, August and September will be held at Altoona’s Highland Park at 11 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. Anyone who has worked in a public school is invited to join. Please call Pat Waring to reserve your place for lunch at (814) 946-9911.
