Canaan Valley promises great skiing conditions, fun family activities

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – Canaan Valley Resort offers a variety of activities and events during the month of February for the whole family, including great conditions for skiing, tubing and outdoor adventure.

“Following recent heavy snowfall and arctic temperatures, the ski area and tubing park at Canaan Valley Resort is coming into full swing,” said Sam England, General Manager of Canaan Valley Resort. “Throughout the month of February, guests will be able to enjoy a host of activities – indoors and outdoors – to complement their fun on the mountain.”

England noted that the station will celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day crafting workshop for children from 2-4 p.m. on February 12.

For adults, the resort will host a “Couples Paint & Sip” event on the same day from 7-9pm where an experienced instructor will guide guests step-by-step to create a romantic painting on two canvases.

On February 5 and 19, the resort will host photography workshops to educate guests on the basics of digital photography while providing tips and tricks for capturing a variety of winter landscapes with a DSLR camera. Officials say attendees should bring their own DLSR or mirrorless camera.

On February 26 from 7-9 p.m., outdoor enthusiast Mark Chapin will host a discussion on identifying edible plants based on his years of experience teaching wilderness survival and primitive skills. This discussion will teach guests to identify important plants and trees for survival as well as what to look for when foraging in your own neighborhood.

On February 19 from 7 to 9 p.m., Paul Fowler, master falconer, will lead an educational workshop on the sport of falconry. From its beginnings thousands of years ago to its current practice, guests will learn about the history, equipment and techniques of this age-old and unique sport.

Additionally, guests are encouraged to take advantage of the resort’s outdoor skating rink, which is open daily. On Friday, February 4 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, February 5 at 2 and 7 p.m., the resort will host figure skating performances by the Charleston Figure Skating Club. Guests are encouraged to meet and skate with the performers after the show.

For the skiers in your group, the Canaan Valley Resort ski area has 47 runs offering a mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain. The mountain offers a vertical drop of 850 feet accessible by three lifts (one quadruple and two triples) and a magic carpet at the beginners’ area.

Special overnight accommodation packages are available. Guests who stay at Canaan Valley Resort three or more consecutive nights can save twenty percent off the standard rate (blackout dates may apply).
