ParKanDo activities in the spotlight | Maribyrnong Bay and Hobsons

People living with Parkinson’s disease or caring for people with the disease are encouraged to take advantage of an upcoming “Fair of Activities” event.

The annual ParKanDo Activities Fair will be held online and at the Newport Community Hub on Tuesday, May 31 starting at 10:30 a.m.

Speakers will include representatives from the University of Victoria’s Master Movers Strength and Balance Program, NeuroRehab Allied Health Network (NRAH), Dance for Wellbeing Program and Australian Multicultural Community Services (AMCS).

The event will also feature information booths about the range of services available for people with Parkinson’s or other chronic illnesses, including ParkinSong Williamstown and a Melton support group.

Pam West from Brooklyn co-founded the organization in 2020, which was initially aimed at residents of Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong and Brimbank, but has since reached out to participants in Canberra and Queensland via Zoom during the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said the speakers will each present for about five minutes.

“It’s kind of like speed dating,” Ms. West said.

“People who feel overwhelmed…have the ability to see and hear about activities anonymously.”

Ms West thanked Hobsons Bay Council for their support of the scheme.

To register for the event, contact [email protected] or Ms West on 0417 690 335.
