JAMMU: The Ecoclub of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government PG College for Women Gandhinagar in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Science and School of Science, Cluster University of Jammu under the umbrella of World Environmental Day environment, has launched a series of activities to promote the value of the environment among the students here under the patronage of Professor Minu Mahajan, Principal of the College.

Dr. Nazia Rasool Latifi, a well-known ecologist and pedagogue, was invited to give a demonstration of the development of vertical gardens at the college. Dr. Rasool gave a lecture on vertical gardens, their role in beautification and their aesthetic value. Students also received hands-on training to develop a full-wall vertical garden in the college.

Dr Minu Mahajan added that vertical gardens are an answer to reuse and recycle single-use plastic for beautification purposes. With the advent of the era of concrete jungles, greenery is on the decline, and vertical gardens can solve the problem of plantings in construction. In addition to having aesthetic values, the development of vertical gardens, like any other gardening technique, stimulates the mood of the gardener, provides an opportunity for physical activities and socialization.

Professor Minu Mahajan expressed his gratitude to the Ecoclub team and encouraged them to organize more such programs which ignite the sense of environment among the students.

The official welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Nisha Bhagat and Prof. Eisha Gohil presented a vote of thanks to the participants and dignitaries present at the activity. Dr. Rahul Sharma, Dr. Suraj Mohani, Prof. Swarn Singh and Prof. Shivani Sawhney organized the entire event.
