Side activities raise vibes for Light up Macau 2022 Extravaganza drone gala set to wow audiences during Labor Day holiday

MACAU, April 28 – Hosted by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the Light up Macau 2022 Drone Gala (the “Drone Gala”) will feature a series of eight spectacular drone shows above Nam Lake Van for four nights – Labor Day holiday (May 1 & 2) and the following weekend (May 7 & 8). The Big Big Drone Expo and Drone Training Expo kicked off as side events to create vibes for the extravaganza, while the Prize Giving Game is now live, all welcoming residents and visitors to join.

Fantastic shows with sophisticated dedication

Themed “Macau for All Seasons,” the Drone Gala will take place above Nam Van Lake at 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on all four nights of May 1, 2, 7, and 8. Test flights took place last night (April 27) in preparation for the first show.

During the eight fashion shows, 16 designs will be eagerly awaited as a feast for the eyes. On the theme of “Spring Rejoice” on the first night, there will be a parade of floats and fireworks, MAK MAK, a flower crown and a flower fairy. On the theme of “Fun-Tastic Summer” on the second night, there will be a love balloon, a carp, a lantern and a drunken dragon party. On the theme of “Golden Fall Delights” on the third night, there will be the cowherd and the weaver, a toast + VIVA, Chang’e flying to the moon and the celebration of the National Day. On the theme of “A Happy Winter” on the fourth night, there will be a romantic gift, the Macau Grand Prix, a flurry of snow and reindeer.

This year, 880 drones will be choreographed in various patterns enhanced by lighting and music in each 15-minute show. The shows will light up Macao’s night sky as nighttime entertainment for locals and visitors, deepening the integration of “tourism+”.

Colorful Sideline Activities Spark Upcoming Vibes

MGTO is rolling out a variety of side activities this year to generate public interest and participation in the Drone Gala. The Big Big Drone Exhibition and Drone Training Exhibition are now open.

The Big Big Drone exhibition displays a gigantic 5-meter-long drone (unmanned aerial vehicle for passenger transport) under the white canopy of the Nam Van Lake Nautical Center from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until May 8. Drone Formation Display presents a training of 200 “I ♡ MACAO” drones at Anim’Arte NAM VAN from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. by April 30 and from May 3 to 6.

Two other side activities, the “Macau for All Seasons” photography competition and the “Drone Sky Art” training design competition, welcome residents and visitors from May 1 to 31, 2022.

Online and offline promotional campaign

MGTO expands publicity for the Drone Gala through various offline and online channels such as WeChat, Weibo, Xiaohongshu, Douyin, travel influencer platforms and mainland news websites, in addition to publishing of promotional videos, to promote the drone extravaganza and Macau as a safe and quality destination among mainland visitors. MGTO will live stream the eight drone shows on MGTO’s official WeChat channel and Weibo account, MGTO’s Facebook pages “Stopover Macao” and “Experience Macao” for the enjoyment of the public who cannot view the shows onsite.

Strict adherence to pandemic prevention guidelines

Upon admission to the designated audience area set up from Anim’Arte NAM VAN near the large white lakeside canopy, viewers are required to present their green Macau health code, scan the location code, undergo temperature checks and maintain social distancing. , as well as wearing masks throughout the time on site. Audiences can also enjoy broadcasts on TDM – Macao TV Channel, TDM Entertainment TV Channel and Macau Cable TV’s HD Channel No. 3 with synchronized music and streaming narration from TDM – Radio Macao’s Chinese Channel (FM100.7) all scheduled evenings.

All performers and staff participating in this event will meet the requirements of the “Prevention of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia – Guidance on Managing Collective Festive Events and Recreational and Sporting Activities” issued by the Health Bureau, c i.e. received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine or had a nucleic acid test for COVID-19.

Weather Contingency Plan

Drone functions, performance and connectivity are subject to variations in wind speed and precipitation rate. Shows can be held in suitable conditions at the wind speed of 31-40 km/hour or less without any rain. MGTO will review the weather forecast from the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau and assess the actual situation. If the situation requires the postponement or cancellation of shows, the Office will endeavor to announce the news to the public as soon as possible.

Temporary traffic restrictions

Vehicle access restrictions will be in place on rehearsal days (April 27 – 30, May 3 – 6) as well as performance days (May 1, 2, 7 and 8), along the Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Nam Van (lanes by the lake). Access to the Governador Nobre de Carvalho bridge will be prohibited for pedestrians during the shows on May 1, 2, 7 and 8.
